The semi-desert inland area of Route 62 (including the Winelands, Little Karoo and the Langkloof) and the coastal Overberg offer a mosaic of holiday possibilities. From a tourist’s point of view, Route 62 provides an alternative means of getting between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, taking the traveller through towns and scenery very different to that seen on the usual N2 coastal highway. The Overberg, on the other hand, is a compact region of small rural and coastal towns scattered among rolling farmlands and indigenous fynbos, barely an hour’s drive from Cape Town.
